University of Leicester
The University of Leicester ( ( listen) LES-tər) is a public research university based in Leicester, England. The main campus is south of the city centre, adjacent to Victoria Park.
The university established itself as a research-led university. It previously consistently ranked among the top 20 universities in the United Kingdom and was ranked 13th by The Guardian University Guide 2014. In 2008, it was awarded University of the Year by Times Higher Education. For 2018, the university is nationally ranked 34th in The Sunday Times Good University Guide, and 29th in The Complete University Guide which it has defined as 'disappointing'. It is ranked as one of the top 200 universities in the world by the 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The university had an income of £302.8 million in 2016/17, of which £52.2 million was from research grants.
The university is famous for the discovery of genetic fingerprinting and contributing to the discovery and identification of the remains of King Richard III.
