Overview
Wikipedia, as the world largest online encyclopedia, contains massive knowledge and information. However, the uneven article qualities have been criticized for a long term. How to measure article qualities becomes a vital task for knowledge management in Wikipedia. The peer-review metric developed by Wikipedia website cannot solve the problem because of its poor efficiency. Most of other quality assessing metrics concentrate on the qualities of English Wikipedia articles. In this paper, authors explored ways of utilizing the attributes of an article to assess the quality of the article in the Chinese Wikipedia. The quality measuring task was divided into two phases. In the first phase, authors tried to ascertain the rough quality type of articles by employing their lengths. In the second phase, authors determined the exact quality class of articles by calculating cosine similarities between article vectors. Experiments suggested that their approach outperforms the word count metric, the Naive Bayes Classifier as well as the C4.5 Decision Tree in the same sample.
